Describe the user interface customization options.
Salesforce currently has two different desktop user interfaces: Salesforce Classic and the newer Lightning Experience. Depending on which user interface is used, different customization options are available.
Several user interface settings can be configured, to adjust the user interface of Salesforce Classic. Those settings are valid for the entire Salesforce org and not specific to objects.
|Enable Collapsible Sections||Allows users to collapse or expand sections on record detail pages by using an arrow icon next to the section heading.|
|Show Quick Create||Allows users to create a record quickly and with minimal information from the Home page and from within lookup dialogs.|
|Enable Hover Details||Allows users to hover over links to related records and display related information in a popover. The fields displayed in the popover are defined in mini page layouts. To view hover details for a record, users need the appropriate sharing and field-level security access.|
|Enable Related List Hover Links||Allows users to hover over related lists and display the related list in a popover.|
|Enable Separate Loading of Related Lists||Loads data in related lists separately from the primary record to improve performance. As a result, users see primary record details immediately, and a progress indicator is displayed while related list data loads.|
|Enable Separate Loading of Related Lists of External Objects||Loads data in related lists of external objects separately from the primary record to improve performance. As a result, users see primary record details immediately, and a progress indicator is displayed while related list data loads.|
|Enable Inline Editing||Allows users quickly to edit field values directly on record detail pages, by double-clicking on fields.|
|Enable Enhanced Lists||Allows users to quickly view, customize, and edit list views. When enabled together with the "Enable Inline Editing" setting, users can edit records directly from the list view.|
|Enable the Salesforce Classic 2010 User Interface Theme||The Salesforce Classic 2010 user interface theme is the newer version of Salesforce Classic, which is preceded by Lightning Experience. Some features, like Chatter, require the Salesforce Classic 2010 user interface theme. Disabling this theme automatically disables Chatter in both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience.|
|Enable Tab Bar Organizer||Arranges tabs in the main tab bar to prevent horizontal scrolling of the page. It determines how many tabs can be displayed in a user's browser window, and puts tabs beyond the maximum width into a drop-down list.|
|Enable Printable List Views||Allows users to print list views.|
|Enable Spell Checker on Tasks and Events||Enables the Check Spelling button when users create or edit tasks or events.|
|Enable Customization of Chatter User Profile Pages||Allows administrators to customize the tabs on the Chatter user profile page.|
|Enable Collapsible Sidebar||Allows users to show and hide the sidebar in Salesforce Classic.|
|Show Custom Sidebar Components on All Pages||Makes custom sidebar components on Home page layouts available on all pages and to all users.|
|Enable Home Page Hover Links for Events||Enables hover links in the calendar section of the Home page.|
|Enable Drag-and-Drop Editing on Calendar Views||Allows users to organize events by dragging-and-dropping events on single-user, daily and weekly calendar views.|
|Enable Click-and-Create Events on Calendar Views||Allows users to create events on day and weekly calendar views by double-clicking a specific time slot.|
|Enable Drag-and-Drop Scheduling on List Views||Allows users to create events related to records, by dragging-and-dropping records from list views to weekly calendar views.|
|Enable Hover Links for My Tasks List||Enables hover links for tasks in the My Tasks section of the Home page and on the calendar day view.|
|Enable Enhanced Page Layout Editor||Enables an improved interface for editing page layouts.|
|Enable Enhanced Profile List Views||Enables enhanced list views and inline editing on the profiles list page.|
|Enable Enhanced Profile User Interface||Allows administrators to easily navigate, search, and modify settings for single profiles.|
|Enable Streaming API||Allows receiving notifications for changes to data that match a SOQL query.|
|Enable Dynamic Streaming Channel Creation||Allows generic streaming channels to be dynamically created when clients subscribe, if the channel hasn’t already been created.|
|Enable Custom Object Truncate||Allows truncating custom objects, by permanently deleting all the records of a custom object but keeping the object and its metadata intact for future use.|
|Enable Improved Setup User Interface||Allows users to access their personal settings from the My Settings menu, instead of from the Setup menu.|
|Enable Advanced Setup Search (Beta)||Allows administrators to search for Setup pages, custom profiles, permission sets, public groups, roles, and users from the sidebar in Setup.|
|Activate Extended Mail Merge||Enables the Mass Mail Merge feature on the Home page for accounts, contacts, and leads.|
|Always save Extended Mail Merge documents to the Documents tab||Mail merge documents generated using Extended Mail Merge are uploaded to the user's folder in the Documents tab, instead of via email.|
Not all user interface settings for Salesforce Classic are relevant for Lightning Experience too. Instead, there are many new features to configure the Lightning Experience, which are not available for Salesforce Classic.
With the Lightning Experience, Salesforce introduced Lightning Components, Lightning Pages, and the Lightning App Builder tool. The Lightning App Builder tool can be used to create Lightning Pages. Lightning Pages consist of one or more Lightning Components. Such components are configurable and reusable building blocks, providing Salesforce functionalities. By combining Lightning Components into Lightning Pages using the Lightning App Builder tool, custom apps can be built, and the Home page or record detail pages can be customized.
