Identify the methods to personalize content for users.
Community members can be grouped into audiences and presented with targeted content in Salesforce communities. Those segments can be used to present different community content, such as page variations, components, and branding sets.
Audiences are sets of criteria to group community member into segments. They can be assigned to page variations, page components, and branding sets, to present targeted and personalized content.
Audiences can be defined based multiple criteria related to the User records of community members. Those criteria can be combined with AND, OR, and custom formula logic.
Following criteria types are supported to define audiences:
With field traversing, fields on objects related to the User object can be used in audience criteria. For example, since community users are linked to a Contact records, fields from the Contact object can be used to specify the audience.
Audiences can be assigned to page variations, to display a different version of a community page to each segment.
Audiences and the assignment of audiences to page variations can be managed under Pages > Properties > Page Variations in Community Builder.
To further refine content targeting, audiences can be assigned to individual component on community pages. This allows to set the visibility of a component for each segment.
Audiences and the assignment of audiences to page components can be managed under Page Component > Audience > Assign in Community Builder.
If a page components is assigned to specific audience, it is outlined in purple instead of a blue in Community Builder.
Assigning audiences to page components is not available for audiences which use the Record Type criteria, and for components in the header and footer sections of a template.
To change the branding of a community depending on the audience, Branding Sets can be created and assigned to audiences. Branding Sets are bundled collections of images, fonts, and colors which change the look and feel of a community.
Audiences and the assignment of audiences to branding sets can be managed under Theme > Manage Branding Sets > Manage Audiences in Community Builder.
Branding Sets do not change the header and hero areas of standard community templates.
